| Here's a little history for ya. Back in '96, I purchased a '79 280zx that I eventually crashed into a bridge pillar on my way to college. I fell asleep at the wheel and woke up underneath the ramp for Woodstock, VA (*sigh). Although the car itself really didn't require a whole lot of restoration (previous owner did that for me), I kept up with it to keep it running strong (i.e. . some key motor repairs). That bridge pretty much sent it to its grave with little to salvage. So here I am in 2002 restoring another 79 so I can relive those days of yesteryear. | ||

I bought this car from a guy who only lived a few miles down the road. His wife didn't want it anymore so he had to sell. The key ingredient here is that he was a "Race Car" mechanic so the engine ran like a champ. The body had some rust that needed attention though. And $1500 later, I decided to take the challenge. What I want to do with this one is strip it down and change the color to all black. I also have the original '79 "Iron Cross" rims which will probably replace these gold ones. Add some louvers, a front air dam, the headlight covers, and replace some of the interior plastics and this baby will be ready to fly. Day 1 was straight forward but tedious to say the least. All I wanted to achieve was to remove the lights, turn signals, and bumbers. While it sounded simple enough, rusty bolts and small metric sizes required some WD and metric tools. --Off to HOME DEPOT! |
